The objective of the present investigation is to explore the possibility of use of recycled coarse aggregates (RCA) in production of self compacting concrete (SCC). Two different mixes of M20 and M30 were designed as per IS10262-2009 and suitable modifications as per EFNARC guidelines were carried out to arrive at the SCC mix proportions. The suitability of recycled coarse aggregate in self compacting concrete was assessed by conducting various tests to check the passing ability, filling ability and seggregation resistance of SCC before casting reinforced concrete beams. To meet the objective, a total of 8 beam specimens of M20 and M30 grade concretes, divided into two groups (balanced and under reinforced sections), were tested to failure, under static flexural load. Though there is some reduction in the failure moments of M30 concrete beams compared to theoretical moments, the beams made of M20 grade concrete with RCA failed at moments higher than the theoretical moments, substantiating the use of RCA in SCC.
