Abstract

In this paper, the non-linear dynamic buckling of laminated composite rectangular plates is studied using finite element method. The laminated composite plates are subjected to in-plane dynamic compressive loads. The non-linear dynamic equations are solved using Abaqus/Explicit. Volmir’s criterion is used to calculate the dynamic buckling loads. In order to observe the actual phenomenon, imperfections are incorporated in the plate. The results are validated using results from the available literature. The effect of ply orientation, loading function and imperfections on the non-linear dynamic buckling loads are studied. Non-linear dynamic buckling loads for rectangular pulse loads are found to be critical when compared to sinusoidal loading function.
