A hybrid steel girder is a welded girder with different steel grades in flange and web withthe objective to use materials in position according to their strengths. In classical approach, plastic performance of doubly symmetric hybrid plate girders, with varying hybrid ratio, was compared with homogeneous girder in analytical study carried out separately. The present study is concentrated on comparing same parameters byusing non-linear finite element analysis. Various structural steel grades used are E250, E300, E350, E410 and E450 conforming to IS 2062-2011. Finite Element Method is used to establish moment curvature relationship for homogeneous and hybrid girders. Moment capacity, performance in axial force interaction, yield surface curve, and shear force interaction of hybrid and homogeneous girders are compared. Hybrid section shows more concavity with relatively stronger yield surface. Shear force interaction shows that there is reduction in plastic moment capacity. Substantial plastic moment reduction was not observed in shear force interaction, as flanges carry more moment and there is more reduction in moment capacity of web than flanges.
